Leadership and Development

banner

«ETH Zurich encourages its staff through motivation and respect and creates optimal development opportunities». The above statement from the Strategy and Development Plan 2008 - 2011 provides an important basis for our leadership concept. The executive board wishes to reinforce leadership quality in order to maximize personnel development.

The leadership principles are clearly formulated and are a representation of HR leadership values while also providing guidelines for personnel leadership.

Appraisal interviews, an important tool for implementing our management philosophy, are to take place annually. In addition to performance assessment the former also include cooperative career planning, with a discussion of the employee’s future goals.

Leadership principles and appraisal interview can only be effective if managers and employees follow those guidelines in everyday life. Performance evaluations too are useful if these discussions lead to cooperative skills assessment by employee and supervisor. Successful implementation of these tools usually reinforces better leadership and employee motivation and development.

There are various ways of achieving greater employee development. Check our career concepts site to obtain further information on the different roles and development opportunities for ETH employees.
